China's installed wind-power generation capacity is likely to top five million kilowatts next year, two years ahead of what was envisaged in the national development plan, Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.

It cited an industry official Li Junfeng as saying that wind power is developing rapidly in China and that installed capacity would reach
four million kilowatts by the end of 2007.

Under China’s national development plan, the total installed capacity of wind power was to reach five million kilowatts by 2010 and rise
further to 30 million kilowatts by 2020, Xinhua said.
New wind-power generation capacity increased 165% last year to 1.33 million kilowatts, the report said.
