China sets out new environmental measures

China’s government will step up environmental protection this year with measures including pollution trading schemes and higher taxes on emissions, reports the People’s Daily on Tuesday, citing China’s Ministry of Finance.

China will experiment with the trade of pollution emissions rights in the power industry and in east China’s Taihu Lake area, said the report.

The government will also adjust taxation policies concerning coal resources to limit over-exploitation and improve the rate of environmental recovery.
