Gore sets ambitious climate-change goal

Al Gore has issued a challenge to the United States -- and its next president -- to produce every kilowatt of its electricity through wind, the sun and other environmentally friendly energy sources within 10 years, the Associated Press reports.

The Nobel Prize-winning former vice president reportedly said Democrat Barack Obama and his Republican rival John McCain were "way ahead" of most politicians in the fight against global warming.

To meet his 10-year goal, Gore said nuclear energy output would continue at current levels while the country rapidly increases its use of solar, wind, geothermal and "clean coal" power. Huge investments must also be made in technologies to improve energy efficiency, he said.
