Glaciers melt ‘at fastest rate in 5,000 years’

The world's glaciers are melting faster than at any time since records began, the Observer reported scientists as saying on Sunday, threatening catastrophe for hundreds of millions of people.
The latest report from the World Glacier Monitoring Service also shows the biggest ever ‘net loss’ of ice around the world.
The melting glaciers were now the ‘loudest and clearest’ warning signal of global warming, the report quoted Achim Steiner, head of the UN Environment Programme, as saying.
