The city, which is in Hebei province and accounts for around one-tenth of the country’s steel output, is home to Tangshan Iron and Steel
Group. But it is one of several areas that have been asked to cut emissions for the Beijing Olympics.

"Tangshan is at the gates of Beijing. If the wind blows, the pollution floats right over," Reuters reported the city’s party secretary, Zhao Yong, as saying.

As part of the campaign, the report said, the steel giant hopes to build a new 20 million tonne per year plant on the Hebei coast.
