Chinese subway ad angers passengers

An advertisement on Beijing's subway proclaiming "Squeezed in?! Go and buy a car then!" has angered passengers who say it runs counter to environmental efforts, Reuters reported a state newspaper as saying.

The advert, which does not identify the company or organisation behind it, is contrary to the capital’s aim of getting more people to take
public transport, the Beijing Daily said.

"Isn’t this out of tune with environmental protection?" the report quoted a subway passenger as saying.

Internet users have come up with their own versions of the advertisement’s slogan, the report added, proposing: "Stuck in a traffic jam? Then take the subway!."
