Climbers plan ‘green’ ascent of Everest

The team of 18 climbers from Belgium, Nepal, South Korea and Spain hope to raise funds for further research and monitoring of glacial
melting, the report said.

Glaciers are shrinking fast due to climate change, experts say, threatening the source of Asia’s nine major river systems, relied upon by millions of people in the region.

Studies show the average temperature of the Himalayan region has risen between 0.15 and 0.6 degrees Celsius per decade from 1975.
