India climate road map ‘ready in June’

India will reveal a national plan on global warming in June, Reuters reported prime minister Manmohan Singh as saying on Thursday, but it will not commit to emissions curbs that risk slowing economic growth.

India’s Council on Climate Change will look at setting up a venture capital fund to promote green technologies, Singh was reported telling a sustainable development conference in New Delhi. The road map will also aim to increase energy efficiency and stop climate change affecting India’s poor.

"India is prepared to commit that our per-capita carbon emissions will never exceed the average per-capita emissions of developed industrial economies," Singh was quoted as saying.
