Environment the ‘worst part of Chinese life’

An annual attitudes survey conducted by a state-run magazine has found the environment the most unsatisfactory aspect of life in China for the third year running, reports said on Monday.

Xiaokang magazine found the environment ranked the lowest on a "comfort" survey of 11 aspects of Chinese life.

The survey covered entertainment, food, public services, housing, health, environment, education, consumption, safety, credit and happiness. The "happiness" index ranked highest, the report added.

"The respondents are not satisfied with the environment mainly because of frequent problems of environmental pollution and awareness of the issue," Guo Fang, editor of Xiaokang, was quoted as saying.
