UK supermarket bans palm oil

British supermarket chain Sainsbury's has announced a ban on palm oil, an ingredient used in thousands of its products, which is blamed for the destruction of tropical rainforests, the Guardian reported on Wednesday.

The supermarket says it intends to accept palm oil only from certified sustainable sources, starting with plantations in Colombia.
