Green energy awards calls for 2008 entries

The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy are seeking entries from innovative local sustainable energy projects in China to compete for a share of £160,000 (US$320,000) in prize money.

The awards is open to projects from Asia, Africa and Latin America, but applicants from China that have radically improved the lives of local communities and can demonstrate significant environmental benefits through the use of renewable energy or energy saving measures are particularly welcome, the organisers said.

Past winners include a Chinese-made stove that burns crop-waste for fuel and an Indian scheme that turns food scraps into fuel and light.
