Typhoon ‘to spare Shanghai’

Typhoon Wipha toppled hundreds of homes in China's coastal province of Zhejiang, Reuters reported on Wednesday, but it abruptly lost strength and looked set to miss Shanghai as it headed north.

More than 2 million people had been evacuated in the provinces of Fujian and Zhejiang and the city of Shanghai ahead of what officials
had predicted would be a "super typhoon".

But the storm had weakened significantly since landfall, reports said on Wednesday.
