US cuts ‘will limit climate research’

The US government's research on climate change is threatened by spending cuts, the Washington Post reported the country's National Research Council as saying.

The program director’s lack of authority to organise spending and research was cited as "a major problem", the report said.

Experts were keen to stress the importance of further climate research. Progress has been inadequate in determining how climate change will affect people, the report cited Veerabhadran Ramanathan, at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, as saying.
