China begins ‘green traffic week’

People in 108 cities in China are being encouraged not to use cars and take alternative forms of transport in a week-long drive launched on Monday to tackle air pollution.

China's Ministry of Construction launched its first national urban public transport campaign, "Green Transport and Health", China Daily reported on Monday.

Qiu Baoxing, the vice-minister of the Ministry of Construction was reported as saying the campaign will save 33 million litres of petroleum.
