Estimates of sea level rise in the IPCC report were "conservative and based on data two years old", the Guardian reported, citing Robert Correll, chairman of the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, speaking at the Ilulissat glacier in Greenland.
The predicted rise this century is 20 to 60 centimetres, but it would be at the upper end of this range, the report quoted Correll as saying, with some believing it could be as high as two metres.
Leaders of Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Shinto, Buddhist and Jewish religions took a boat to Greenland’s Ilulissat glacier on Saturday for a silent prayer for the planet. They were invited by Bartholomew I, the spiritual leader for Orthodox Christians.
