China adds environmental records to credit database

China has added information about energy consumption and pollution for more than 12 million companies to a national credit database, Reuters reported the country's state broadcaster as saying on Tuesday.

China’s central bank has been compiling the data since the start of the year, and has already found 15,000 violations of national policy, the report on China Central Television said.

The central bank "will tell banks to restrict their lending to heavy polluters, energy consumers and firms operating with inefficient, outdated facilities in industries that face overcapacity," the report said.
