Sand storms eroding Great Wall

Sand storms in northwest China may cause whole sections of the Great Wall to disappear in about 20 years, Xinhua said on Wednesday.

More than 60 kilometres of the wall in Gansu province have been "rapidly disappearing", Xinhua said, citing Zhou Shengrui, the head of a museum in Minqin county.

"Similar erosion happened to the Great Wall in other places, but the situation is much worse here," he was quoted as saying.
