Most China coastal sewers ‘big polluters’

Nearly eight out of 10 Chinese coastal city sewers discharged excessive amounts of pollutants into the sea in the first six months of the year, Xinhua said on Saturday.

Most of the outlets were "improperly arranged", the report said, with 43% in tourist, sea farming and other reserved areas and 33% in harbour and shipping areas.
A report by the State Oceanic Administration said 77% of coastal sewers were discharging more pollutants than allowed. It said 82.8% of sewer outlets along east China’s Yellow Sea discharged excessive pollutants.
