IOI Group

IOI is one of Malaysia's largest conglomerates. It operates oil palm plantations, facilities for manufacturing specialty fats and oleochemicals, and property investment and development. The company was incorporated in 1969 under Industrial Oxygen Incorporated (IOI) Sdn Bhd, and entered the plantation sector in 1983 through the acquisition of three estates in Pahang, Malaysia. Despite being a co-founder of the RSPO, IOI has faced significant criticism from NGOs such as Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and Aidenvironment over failures to abide by its own sustainability commitments. These include illegal deforestation, land conflict and fires within company concessions.
