England's obese will total 13m by 2010

More than 12 million adults and one million children will be obese by 2010, according to figures published today.
Around a third of adults and a fifth of all children will be obese, statistics from the Health Survey for England - published by the Department of Health - will show.

As a result, thousands more people are expected to suffer from diseases such as cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
