Global warming responsible for thawing permafrost, say experts

The world’s permafrost is continuing to thaw as a result of global warming, said experts at the Asian Conference on Permafrost in Lanzhou, northwest China.
For the past 50 years, the total area of perennially frozen soil in the northern hemisphere has decreased by 7%-10%, or 3-4 million km². In China, the total area of permafrost has decreased by 10%-15%.
