Extreme cold sweeps north China

Flights were cancelled and roads sealed off as snow and freezing weather swept across northern China on Sunday, Reuters reported.

All flights were canceled at the Binhai International Airport in Tianjin, northeast China, due to heavy snow.

 

In western China’s Sichuan province, survivors of the May 12 earthquake living in prefabricated housing need 3.6 million quilts and the same number of cotton-padded clothes to survive the winter, Reuters quoted state media as saying.

 

In early 2008, unusually cold weather in central and southern China killed at least 129 people and caused transport chaos across the country.
